Billboard's "Fighter" Review
After an abrupt about-face from "Dirrty" to "Beautiful," Christina Aguilera
further tips off the versatility that pervades current Stripped with her
turn as a rocker chick, à la Janet Jackson's "Black Cat." Written and
produced with Scott Storch (Pink, Eve, Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z), "Fighter"
puts up its dukes with a scorching parade of electric guitars courtesy of
Jane's Addiction's Dave Navarro, a(nother) lyric about the strength of a
woman ("Made me learn a little bit faster/Made my skin a little bit
thicker/Makes me that much smarter/So thanks for making me a fighter"), and
a tornado of a vocal from the talented songstress. With music this good,
it's a shame that Aguilera insists on courting such a raunchy visual image.
She's got the goods to rise above what so many lesser acts depend on for
celebrity.
